About Us

The Coalition for QueensRail

We are a 501(c)3 Not-for-Profit, staffed by volunteers and driven by our desire to reduce the time to get in, out and about Queens, NY. Whether you will benefit directly from improved public transportation or know someone who will, we appreciate your support. Queens is one big community. We’re in this together.

What’s So Important?

This small, 3.5 mile Right-of-Way has the potential to reduce the time it takes for passengers to get from JFK Airport and midtown Manhattan from 1 hour to just 30 minutes.  It will be able to get people to and from the Resorts World complex at Aquaduct in even less time.

Let’s not forget about the residents of Queens who will benefit from the restored rail link the most by taking 30 minutes off of their commute each way.

Most politicians acknowledge that southeastern Queens, home to over a 1/2 million people is a transportation desert.  Why then do these very same politicians refuse to do anything about it?

Like the slow moving A train, the ferry isn’t the answer either.  Both only connect to lower-Manhattan, not midtown.  SBS and even express buses aren’t the answer as they can take up to two hours for the evening commute. Besides, buses average less than 10 MPH.  If New York City really expects drivers to get out of their cars for public transportation it’s going to have to do a lot better than than.

Since the Rockaway Beach Branch was abandoned by the City in 1952, commuters wanting to get from south Queens to central Queens needed to go through Manhattan.

How Can I Help?

Transportation is the lifeblood of any city.  Privately built subways back in 1902 helped New York grow to what it is today. But our free ride is over.  After a century of neglect we can no longer turn a blind eye to a broken and in parts abandoned system .  It is our turn to invest in the subway for the sake of the next generation.

The time for excuses is over.  Let’s find the money and elected officials  to get it done.  Our children are counting on us.

You can support this effort in at least four ways:

  1. Joining the Coalition for QueensRail as a volunteer
  2. Contacting your elected representatives
  3. Financial donation
  4. Helping to spread the word with your friends and family.
